How this is calculated

Stitches = blanket width × (your stitches per 4 in ÷ 4). Rows = blanket length × (your rows per 4 in ÷ 4). In centimeters, use your gauge per 10 cm and divide by 10.

Example: a 50 × 60 in throw at 14 stitches and 16 rows per 4 in needs 50 × 3.5 = 175 stitches and 60 × 4 = 240 rows, plus your pattern’s turning chain. Stitch patterns with a repeat (for example a multiple of 4) need rounding to the nearest repeat.

Blankets relax after washing, so measure your swatch after blocking it the way you’ll treat the finished blanket.

FAQ

What size is a crochet baby blanket?

Baby blankets vary a lot by designer. Common sizes are a 30 × 36 in stroller blanket and a 40 × 60 in crib blanket; a lovey is about 12 × 12 in.

What size is a crochet throw blanket?

A small throw is about 50 × 60 in (127 × 152 cm). It suits most adults on a sofa and is the safest choice when you don’t know someone’s bed size.

What size is a queen crochet blanket?

About 90 in wide by 90–100 in long (229 × 229–254 cm), which covers a queen mattress with some drape over the sides.

How many stitches do I need for my blanket?

Multiply the blanket width by your stitches per inch, and the length by your rows per inch. Enter your swatch gauge in this calculator and pick a size to get both numbers.

Why are the sizes different on other charts?

There is no single official blanket standard; designers publish slightly different sizes. We only list sizes that at least two published charts agree on. Measure your bed or sofa if the size matters.
